Dr. Rod,

I just wanted to take this opportunity to say, “Thank you” for all you have done to help me over the past 3 years.  I feel so very fortunate that our paths crossed when they did.  As a physician, you are simply “one of a kind”.  Your devotion to your career and patients is extremely rare and unfortunately, many people spend their lives suffering because they can’t find the kind of quality that I have found in your practice.

I appreciate the fact that you are a life-long learner and constantly researching new procedures, techniques, etc… to meet the needs of your patients.  I am also most grateful that you help your patients understand that many times there is not a “quick fix” for their medical conditions.  You have taught me that it’s more than just treating the symptoms.  It’s necessary to find the root of the problem whether it’s mind, body or soul and work on all areas in tandem.  Again, thank you for all you do!  You set a high-standard for your colleagues, and we can only hope that other physicians will follow in your fine footsteps.

Sincerely,

Melissa C. Dallas, TX 75231

You are certainly welcome to post it!!  I’m not always the best at conveying my thoughts, but the sentiment is always there.

Believe me, I’m always singing your praises!!  If I had it my way, everyone I know would be coming to you!  I have desperately needed to come see you over the past two weeks, but I’ve either been traveling, in training or we’ve been short-staffed here at the office.  I hope to schedule an appointment next week.  J

See you soon!!  I hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!

November 5, 2008

I am a healthy, active, vibrant and fun-loving 42 year old woman.
Mother to my wonderful 17 year old son, who has promised me a dance on his wedding day, God willing.
But, have been suffering from a bad joint (I am tempted to call it a bad "knee", but Dr. Rodrigues has been able to intimate me on the difference between a knee and a joint).
Due to the discomfort caused by the pain and swelling, I have been seeing a renowned Orthopedic Doctor (who shall remain nameless) who has been trying really hard to "fix" my joint. Bless his heart!
He has performed 2 arthroscopic procedures (1993 and 1996) on that joint, and has drained it countless times.
He has also put me on some very strong medications (I am currently on one of them until Friday 11/7/2008). But still, I hurt. It is still swollen. It is still stiff. It is still in a bad shape.
That was until a colleague of mine told me about her visit to Dr. Rodrigues. So, I thought to call his office and set up an appointment.
My first visit was Thursday 10/23/2008. So far, I have had 2 additional visits since then. I am following his advise (that includes the exercise program and the wellness instructions) to the T, and the results have been nothing short of amazing!
Would you believe that I asked Dr. Rodrigues (during my session with him yesterday, Wednesday 11/4/2008) if I could resume running???? That is how much better I feel already! I have not ran (not even jogged) in almost 10 years because of this bad joint!!
The highlight of my day yesterday (next to the selection of the new President of the United States of America) was hearing Dr. Rodrigues tell me that I will be pain free sooner than I think!
All I can say, is thank you, Dr. Rodrigues! You do not know what you have done for me!

November 2004

I have been suffering from very painful muscle spasms and joint inflammation in my neck and shoulders for the past eleven years. After many appointments with an orthopedic surgeon, a physiatrist, a pain management expert, a massage therapist and a physical therapist, after X-rays, CT scans, bone scans, MRI’s, muscle relaxers, pain pills and anti-inflammatory drugs – I was finally encouraged by one physician to try acupuncture for relief.

I felt comfortable knowing that Dr. Rodrigues is an MD and as such he has a broad base understanding of the human body and its diseases. Dr. Rodrigues took a thorough and complete medical history, making sure we were not overlooking any potential factors causing my pain. I found Dr. Rodrigues to be an extremely caring, friendly and professional doctor who always has time to listen to a patient’s concerns – something hard to find these days.

After the very first acupuncture treatment, I felt more relief than I had obtained from any other treatment or medication. The acupuncture needles are tiny and it is completely painless. Afterwards I feel relaxed, very much like after a deep tissue massage. After a series of acupuncture treatments to my neck and shoulders, I am now able to work out at the gym, play squash and run pain free for the first time in years. The chronic headaches and throbbing shoulder aches that had become a constant daily irritation are completely gone.

I would recommend Dr. Rodrigues’ acupuncture treatments to anyone suffering chronic pain. You have nothing to lose but your aches!

Sincerely,

I cannot think of enough words to express my gratitude for the impact you have made on my life.  I will try to give you the tip of the iceberg though.  I had pain in my neck and back for years.  Of course, I didn't know it wasn't normal to feel pain in my neck and back all of the time until you told me that your back and neck should feel like your ears, hair, toenails, etc. - no pain and no constant awareness of them.  Your relaxing atmosphere, helpful staff, impressive knowledge of pain management, limitless patience, and kind demeanor were such a breath of fresh air.  I enjoyed your natural approach to helping the body to heal itself.  I feel like a kid again.  I have pain very rarely.  When it does occur, I recognize it and immediately start relaxing and taking the tension out of my neck and back.  I now get up extra early every morning to make time for yoga and meditation.  I also now get massages, take my vitamins religiously, and soak in Epsom salt as often as I can.  Every time I go to see you, I will continue to pick up a stack of your business cards because I give them out to so many people.

You have gone even deeper than the physical pain for me.  I feel like I am healing emotionally and spiritually as well.  Your recommended reading list was superb and life-changing.  I have a brand new outlook on life that is filled with positive thoughts and emotions.  My perspective has changed so much.  I thank you with all of my heart for starting me down this spiritual path.

Thank you, Dr. Rodrigues.

S. WILLIAMS

TESTIMONIAL FOR DR. RODRIGUES

I have suffered from severe chronic back pain since my teens – over 40 years!!!! In 1988, I was diagnosed with two ruptured discs in my lower back and surgery was scheduled immediately.  Six surgeries over the next 3 ½ years (including the removal of my tailbone) left me in constant and persistent debilitating pain and my life revolved around watching the clock for the next time that I could take my next dose of  pain medication.  In 1999, it was recommended that I have a morphine intrathecal pump implanted in my body that would provide me with a continual flow of a “cocktail” of medication which included morphine, a numbing medication and a muscle relaxant.  For a while, this greatly improved my overall condition but over the next eight years, I was taking over 25 pills a day for a variety of problems which included additional medication for pain, muscle relaxants, nerve pain, etc.  By 2005, I was using a cane and by the summer of 2006, I was not only using a cane but now I also needed a walker.  I was spending a minimum of 18 hours a day in bed, unable to work, and felt my life wasn’t worth living anymore.

Then I met Dr. Stephen Rodrigues, a board certified medical/family doctor who has been studying the ancient Chinese art of acupuncture for many, many years. He was actually recommended to me by one of my pain management doctors who thought that acupuncture might be able to relieve some of my discomfort.  I remember so vividly the first time I met him.  He was different from all the other doctors I had been seeing over the years.  He actually listened to me when I was telling him about my condition.  He not only listened, he asked questions!  The rapport was instantaneous. Anyone who has lived or is living a life of chronic pain and suffering knows that this “rapport” I am speaking of is crucial to the overall doctor/patient relationship and is critical to the patient’s ability to believe that good health can be achieved and that he/she can get well again.  He/she must have hope and a goal to shoot for and this is what Dr. Rodrigues provides.  It is so typical of doctors (and I can say this having been to so many over the years) that when you begin telling them your problems, their training teaches them to begin diagnosing your problem based on the first things that come out of your mouth and then, usually, medications are prescribed accordingly.  They don’t allow themselves the time to hear your entire story and, thus, may miss components of your condition that are crucial to your overall diagnosis and treatment.  From my very first meeting with Dr. Rodrigues (whose patience and understanding are second to none), I was given the “hope” for which I had been searching – that wonderful expectation that I could be helped.

I began seeing Dr. Rodrigues twice a week and I remember actually counting the times – because by my 9th visit, I realized I was becoming a totally “new” person.  I was no longer using a cane and/or walker. My pain had lessened considerably.  I now was only taking five pills a day instead of twenty-five and three of these pills are vitamin/health supplements.  I don’t need additional pain medication or muscle relaxants and no longer need medication for nerve pain. I’m actually having my morphine pump dialed “backwards” as I don’t require the amount of morphine that was being pumped into my system 24 hours a day.  I’m exercising.  I’m walking on a daily basis – something I could only dream about a short time ago.  I told Dr. Rodrigues I’m getting “cabin fever” because I’m feeling so good, I want to get up and go………………..!  My entire life is changing.  I can’t remember the last time I felt this good!!!

It is absolutely unbelievable what Dr. Rodrigues has done for me over the past four months when I have suffered for the past thirty years!  I am no longer living a life filled with despair wondering how long I can stand this life of pain.  I need wonder no more.  I just know one thing for certain.  I thank God every day for bringing Dr. Rodrigues into my life……………………..
